FAQs

Quick answers β€” the full guides live inside each app under Help.

How does the 7-day trial work?

Your first login automatically unlocks every app for 7 days β€” no card needed. The trial covers the apps only β€” paid Add-ons (extra broker accounts, static IP) and AI Backtesting (MCP) plans are not part of it. When it ends, the apps lock and you pick a plan for the ones you use (or the Combo). Anything you saved β€” watchlists, layouts, strategies β€” stays on your account.

What does the Combo include?

Options Analytics + QuikTrade + Copy Trading + Stocks Scanner + Portfolio Execution Terminal + Footprint & Market Profile, one subscription. Algo & Backtest is sold separately β€” as an unlimited plan or pay-as-you-go credits.

How do algo credits and free backtests work?

a backtest costs 1 credit per started year of the date range (a 3-year run is 3 credits); your first live strategy is free, and starting each further live deployment costs 100 credits; forward-testing on the paper broker is always free. Every account also gets 3 free backtests each week (resets Monday), and new accounts start with 10 free credits. Credits never expire.

If I buy a plan while another is running, do I lose days?

No. The new plan is queued: it starts the day after your current coverage ends, with no overlapping dates. Your invoice shows the exact validity window.

How does the referral program work?

Share your link from the Refer & Earn page. When your friend signs up and makes their first purchase, you BOTH get +1 month (monthly plan) or +3 months (yearly). You need an active plan at that moment for your side of the bonus.

Is one login really enough for all apps?

Yes β€” signing in here (or on any app) signs you into every app your plan covers. Logging out anywhere logs you out everywhere, on every device that shares the session.

Do I get a GST invoice?

Every payment generates a GST tax invoice (CGST+SGST or IGST based on your state) emailed as a PDF and listed above under Billing & history. Add your GSTIN in Profile for B2B invoices.

Do you give tips or advice?

No. FNOTrader builds analysis and execution software only. We are not SEBI-registered investment advisers, and nothing in these apps is a recommendation to buy or sell.

Options Analytics

What does the Options Analytics app actually show me?

The live option chain with open-interest walls and buildup classified at every strike, rolling at-the-money straddle candles, IV analytics with IV rank and percentile, PCR and max pain, multi-strangle tables, an F&O screener, and a strategy builder with payoff diagrams, per-leg Greeks and SPAN margin.

Which underlyings are covered?

NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, FINNIFTY, SENSEX and BANKEX index options, stock options across the F&O universe, and MCX commodity options.

Do you take at-the-money from spot or from futures?

From the synthetic future, computed as strike plus call price minus put price. Options are priced off forward value, so on days with meaningful carry an at-the-money picked from spot can be a strike or two out β€” and everything anchored to it inherits that error.

Is the data live or delayed?

Live during market hours on paid plans. What you see is built from the exchange feed rather than periodic snapshots.

Can I place trades from the Options app?

Yes, and multi-leg strategies go out as a single action rather than leg by leg. The dedicated execution surface is the QuikTrade Terminal, which is a separate app.

What is copy trading here?

It mirrors a leader account's option positions into a follower account at sizing you configure. A leader's exit never reverses into a new follower position. Full copy trading guide →

QuikTrade Terminal

How is QuikTrade different from the Options Analytics app?

Options Analytics is for reading the market; QuikTrade is for acting on it. It's the execution surface β€” sending whole strategies, managing legs as one position and running stop-loss and target rules.

What does 1-click multi-leg execution mean in practice?

A straddle, strangle, iron condor, butterfly or custom structure goes out as one action instead of four separate orders you place by hand while the market moves under you.

Can I see the margin before I send?

Yes. Basket orders show the SPAN plus exposure requirement before submission, so an order you can't fund is visible as such rather than as a broker rejection.

Can I set stop-loss and targets per leg?

Yes β€” per leg and per strategy, including trailing stops and re-entry after a stop-out. Legs stay grouped as one strategy rather than scattering into unrelated positions.

Is there a way to practise without real money?

Yes. There's a β‚Ή1 crore paper-trading demo running the full execution surface against simulated fills, with no broker account needed.

How are large orders handled?

Exchanges cap the size of a single order (the freeze quantity), so anything larger is worked in slices automatically rather than being rejected.

Portfolio Execution Terminal

Does the Portfolio Execution Terminal handle options?

No. It's built for cash equities and swing trading on NSE and BSE. Options analysis and execution live in Options Analytics and QuikTrade; F&O automation lives in Algo & Backtest.

Do my stop-losses keep working if I close the browser?

Yes. Stop-loss and target levels are watched on our servers, not by a script in your tab, so closing the laptop doesn't stop them. The Monitoring tab lists every level currently armed and which have fired.

Does it send a market order when a stop is hit?

No. A breach sends a protective limit order, so a thin order book can't fill you at an arbitrary price.

Can an alert place an order for me?

Yes. An alert can chime, message you on Telegram, call a webhook or place an order with your buffer and stop attached when the level trips. Alerts have to be armed explicitly before they're live.

Why are available funds and T+1 funds shown separately?

Money from a sale isn't spendable until it settles. One blended balance invites deploying cash that hasn't arrived, so settled and settling amounts are kept apart.

What does the Copier do?

It mirrors orders from a leader account to followers at a size multiplier β€” used to run a small and a large account in step, or a paper account alongside a real one.

Stocks Scanner (Market Pulse)

Is it a screener, a chart tool, or both?

Both, in a deliberate order. It leads with market breadth and sector strength, then stage classification and relative strength, then the individual pattern setups β€” so you're picking from strength inside strength rather than finding a good chart in a bad market.

Which setups does it scan for?

Pattern setups including Pocket Pivot, Volatility Contraction Pattern, Cup-with-Handle, flat bases and breakouts on volume expansion, plus Weinstein stage classification and Mansfield relative strength on every name.

Is the data live or end-of-day?

Intraday during market hours, with end-of-day data used for the daily, weekly and monthly views.

How many stocks does it cover?

More than 2,300 NSE-listed stocks, with separate F&O and full-universe views.

Do watchlists sync with the other apps?

Yes. The Stocks Scanner is the owner of record for watchlists β€” a name you find in a screen is already there when you go to chart, size and trade it in the Portfolio Execution Terminal.

Can I export results?

Yes, watchlists and screen results export to CSV.

Footprint & Market Profile

What does a footprint chart show that a candle doesn't?

What happened inside the bar. Every price traded within the candle is listed, split between volume that hit the bid and volume that lifted the ask β€” so you can tell whether buyers were paying up into the high or the move was drifting on thin trade.

Which instruments can I use it on?

NIFTY, BANKNIFTY and SENSEX index futures and options, liquid stock futures, and MCX commodities. Order flow needs trade density to be meaningful, so very thin contracts produce a footprint that's mostly noise.

Is the cumulative delta anchored to the session?

Yes, it resets at the IST session open β€” 09:15 for equity and F&O, 09:00 for MCX. A CVD line carried across days drifts and stops being readable.

Do you have market profile as well as volume profile?

Both. Market profile builds the distribution from time (TPO), volume profile from traded volume, with value area high and low, point of control and single prints on each.

My chart shows no live data β€” what's wrong?

The most common cause is a chart pinned to an expired futures contract, which has no live trade to show. Check the contract before anything else.

Does it cover the longer MCX session?

Yes. MCX runs 09:00 to 23:30 IST, and profiles are built against that session rather than equity hours.

Algo & Backtest

Do I need to write code?

No. Strategies are defined by entry condition, strike-selection rule (at-the-money offset, delta, or premium closest to a value), quantity in lots, and stop-loss and target rules.

What data do the backtests run on?

Actual traded option prices at 1-minute granularity β€” not prices reconstructed from a model. That distinction matters most in deep out-of-the-money and near-expiry strikes, which is exactly where many strategies place legs.

Are returns measured on margin or notional?

On SPAN margin. Because SPAN nets offsetting legs, notional-based returns aren't comparable across structures of different shapes, and they flatter naked positions over defined-risk ones.

Can I test more than one parameter setting at a time?

Yes. Parameter sweeps run as a single job across a grid, so you see whether there's a plateau of settings that work or one lucky cell surrounded by losses.

Can I run a strategy live without risking money first?

Yes, and forward testing is free. The strategy runs against live market data with simulated fills, then the same definition deploys to a real broker account unchanged.

Which underlyings can I backtest?

Index options on NIFTY (from May 2021), SENSEX (from May 2023) and BANKNIFTY (from September 2024), plus 211 single-stock option underlyings on a shorter archive that starts in June 2026 and grows daily. Strikes run ATM Β±10 and one run covers at most about five years.

Does it support MCX?

For live and forward testing, yes β€” 8 commodities with options plus futures-only metals and index contracts, running to 23:30 IST with MIS square-off at 23:25. MCX cannot be backtested: the engine refuses commodity underlyings, so the way to evaluate an MCX strategy is a free paper forward test on live prices.

Can I trigger strategies from TradingView?

Yes, through TradingView webhook alerts.

Mutual Funds

What does the Mutual Funds app do?

Research and ranking on the full AMFI NAV history: SIP and lumpsum simulation, rolling returns, scheme comparison against the benchmark a fund is actually supposed to beat, and point-in-time momentum rotation backtests.

Where does the data come from?

AMFI's daily NAV files, refreshed nightly after they publish. The store holds roughly 34.5 million NAV rows plus derived scheme and index return series.

Why does a SIP return show as XIRR rather than CAGR?

Because each instalment has been invested for a different length of time. A CAGR computed from total invested against final value misstates a SIP; XIRR is the correct measure for cashflows on irregular dates.

What makes a rotation backtest trustworthy?

That it's point-in-time β€” at every rebalance it uses only what was knowable that day. Ranking funds on today's data and backtesting that list produces a result nobody could have achieved.

Can I buy or sell funds through FNOTrader?

No. We're research software, not a distributor, and we don't transact in funds.

How much does it cost?

β‚Ή299/mo β€” the lowest-priced app on the platform.

AI Backtesting (MCP)

What is the MCP server?

A hosted Model Context Protocol server at mcp.fnotrader.com that lets AI assistants β€” Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients β€” run Indian-market backtests and research directly, by asking rather than clicking.

What can it actually do?

Index options backtesting on NIFTY, SENSEX and BANKNIFTY over real 1-minute history; stock options backtesting across 211 F&O underlyings; stock and sector ranking backtests with a fundamentals screener; and mutual fund research including SIP, rolling returns, comparison and momentum rotation.

Can an AI assistant place live trades through it?

No, and this is deliberate β€” the MCP surface is backtesting and research only. There is no live-trading capability exposed to it at all.

How do I connect it?

Mint a token from your account at algo.fnotrader.com/mcp/connect and add the server to your AI client. Setup is a couple of minutes.

What does it cost?

Index Options β‚Ή1,499/mo, Stock Options β‚Ή1,499/mo, Mutual Fund Analysis β‚Ή599/mo, or All-Access β‚Ή2,999/mo. These plans are separate from the app trial.

Data, markets & hours

Which markets and exchanges do you cover?

NSE and BSE for equities and F&O, and MCX for commodities. Nothing outside India.

What are the market hours?

NSE and BSE run 09:15 to 15:30 IST. MCX runs 09:00 to 23:30 IST. All times shown across the platform are IST.

How far back does the historical data go?

Far enough to backtest across multiple years and volatility regimes, with 1-minute granularity on index and stock options. Coverage varies by instrument β€” newly listed contracts have history only from listing.

Is the data live on every plan?

Paid plans get live data during market hours. Freely available surfaces and the trial may use a slower refresh.

Do you handle market holidays and special sessions?

Yes β€” the trading calendar drives the session windows, so charts and profiles don't build bars on days the exchange was closed.
