What the brief is
Every day at 07:30 IST the brief is rebuilt from what has happened since the last run: NSE corporate filings, government press releases and business news. Announcements are read and mapped to the companies they help or hurt, and each company is checked against its fundamentals and recent price action.
The result is a morning reading list ordered by what is most likely to matter, rather than a raw feed of hundreds of filings, most of them procedural.
The tabs
| Tab | What it lists |
|---|---|
| Results filed / Results due today | Quarterly results filed, with growth and the price reaction; and companies whose board meets today to approve results. |
| Important announcements | Material filings — orders, capacity, acquisitions, management changes. |
| This week | Every stock any catalyst touched in the last seven days, and how it moved since. |
| Top picks | Good fundamentals plus a fresh reason to move — the shortlist to read first. |
| Rule changes | Duties, BIS mandates, schemes, GST and similar, with the companies they favour or hurt. |
| All catalysts | Everything mapped to a listed company today. |
| Insider buying / Bulk & block deals | Open-market buying by insiders over 30 days, and the latest session’s large deals netted per buyer. |
| Episodic pivots / Recovery watch / Growth shortlist | The price and fundamentals screens described below. |
Each catalyst carries an impact rating from 1 (minor) to 5 (transformational) and whether it helps or hurts, both of which can be filtered.

The rules behind the screens
- Growth bar — sales growth and latest-quarter sales growth both 40%+, profit growing, 3-year sales CAGR 25%+ where known, trailing sales at least ₹100 crore, market cap ₹500–30,000 crore.
- Quality test — ROCE 15%+, debt/equity 1 or below, latest-quarter sales up 15%+ with profit up, market cap ₹500 crore+. “Good fundamentals” means passing either test.
- Episodic pivot (last 10 sessions) — a gap of 4%+ with a close 8%+ up on 3× average volume; or a close 8%+ up on 5× volume; or 5%+ on 8×. The close must be in the upper half of the day’s range.
- Late breakout — a strong catalyst the market did not gap on, followed 5–45 days later by a 5%+ day on 2× volume to a new 20-day closing high.
- Recovery watch — good-fundamental stocks down 20%+ from their 3-month peak, flagged when they bounce 15%+ off the low or get a fresh catalyst.
- Abnormal insider buying — ₹1 crore+, 0.25%+ of equity, or several insiders. Abnormal deals — bigger than a normal day’s volume or 0.5%+ of equity.
A worked example: is it an episodic pivot?
Made-up session. Previous close ₹200. Opens ₹210, high ₹222, low ₹208, closes ₹218. Volume 9 lakh shares against a 50-day average of 2.5 lakh.
- Gap = 210 ÷ 200 − 1 = 5% (above 4%)
- Close change = 218 ÷ 200 − 1 = 9% (above 8%)
- Volume = 9 ÷ 2.5 = 3.6× (above 3×)
- Close position = (218 − 208) ÷ (222 − 208) = 0.71 (upper half)
All four pass: a gap-type episodic pivot. The brief then attaches that day’s filings and headlines for the company — the “why it moved” — and whether it came off a quiet base (up no more than 15% over the prior three months).
Limits
- Mapping is not judgement. A rule change can be tagged to the companies it plausibly affects; whether it moves their earnings is for you to work out.
- It is a morning snapshot. Filings during the day appear in the next run.
- Thresholds are fixed. A 39% grower misses the 40% bar; use the Growth shortlist sort and the fundamentals page for anything near the line.
- A list is a starting point for research, not a set of trades.

Common questions
What is an episodic pivot in stocks?
A session where a stock gaps up and closes strongly on very heavy volume, usually because of news. Here: a 4%+ gap with an 8%+ close on 3× volume, or an 8%+ close on 5× volume, or 5%+ on 8×, closing in the upper half of the range.
What time is the catalyst brief updated?
Every day at 07:30 IST, covering everything since the previous run.
What counts as abnormal insider buying?
Open-market purchases by promoters, directors or officers of ₹1 crore or more, 0.25% or more of equity, or by several insiders, over the last 30 days.
What is the recovery watch?
Companies with good fundamentals that have fallen 20% or more from their 3-month peak. They are flagged when they bounce 15% off the low or get a fresh catalyst.
Where do the catalysts come from?
NSE corporate filings, government press releases and business news since the last run. Each announcement is read and mapped to the listed companies it affects.
